You guys forgot to mention the spoke cutter tool is $7,000
Scotty & Matty, don't stop doing what you love. Bc we love it too!
Very impressive Scott , especially with your hand situation – thats alot of patience.
It's definitely not an easy task I remember trying to build my front tire on my dirt bike and that's where I kept messing up was in the beginning
How do you know what length millimeter spoke to get for a 20” standard BMX wheel? And do the one length work for both sides? Be it for front and/or rear? Thank you! 🅰️🅿️💯
I would be more inclined to do this if I had a spoke cutting tool. I think lol. How much for a hub replacement?
Is 3 cross or 4 cross better for wheel strength?
😢
You guys need Wheel Fenatyk's 'Pin Vice Nipple Inserter' its in every MTB world cup mechanics tool box for reason. hands down best tool for inserting nipples ive tried to date.
Most of the nipples are sticking out even though i have it together, im just gonna take it to the bike shop lol
satisfying to see the process! Good to see the fruit of sticking with it, after the amount of doubt you had. 🙂
I was 100% ready for Scotty to turn the camera around and bk is just standing there with a completed wheel 😂
Damn if only this thumbnail was around 10,000 years ago.
Impressive Scotty! Your patience and determination are inspiring!
Great video awesome job scotty!!!
I still use skyway tuff 2 mags so I don't have to deal with all of this
Hey Scott.. ngl.. it’s been hard for me to watch the riding videos without you jamming in em… happy to hear you talking amazingly and not being out of breath and moving your arms so much better and your back… it’s great man… please make another update or video of you riding, I just love seeing you ona bike man, you’re a real success story an I’ve been here since before you jumped the r35, and when Corey bodied himself doing the flare or whatever it was on that stepped up quarter in the corner of the incline club I believe it was called. Been watching for years man..
Yes can you do a video of taking a crank apart an hub with sealed bearings or something. I don't wanna mess my bike up I may just get buddy to fix it in a few months
Nicely done! I've been wondering who builds the custom wheels for the shop?
Bro i feel you, every time i build a wheel i go through the same emotional turmoil. Matty did you dirty with the whole one side spoke thing lol
Scotty, can you guys do a video on setting gears for different Mountain Bikes?
Well done Scotty coming from someone that works in a bike shop as well got to say well done l would almost say your going to do many more keep it up👍
Like and support boys it costs us nothing 🙂
Where's the spoke prep? And just do the inbound spokes first then the outbound.
Do unicyclists spend half the amount of time building and truing wheels that bikers do?
Well done considering most people who do have feeling in their fingers can struggle with the fiddly stuff Scotty. Very interesting to see how it's done. 😎👍
Someone else mentioned, but yeah you guys made this way harder on yourself than needed. lol. Do spoke heads out on the drive side, then the same on the opposite side, then twist the hub and do the heads in spokes. This makes it so much easier to get those spokes in and do the 3 (or 4) cross. Love your ambition to learn a new skill!
This was really cool to watch
I build a wheel last week. I prefer to use the technique of putting all the spokes on the hub and then mounting on the rim. The first side is the same as in the video, but on the second side I'm putting the spokes two by two already crossed with their pair. For those who have never done this work, it seems complicated to work with a lot of hanging spokes, but in the end it ends up being easier, because you don't have to bend the spokes.
Make a video to where BK and Matty have a rim building contest like who’s the fastest
This was awesome! thanks scotty and matty, can we get a timed build off between matty and bk?
There's a great video by Ali Clarkson explaining everything really detailled with good graphics. Im gonna send the link in the answers of this comment..
Man you’re doing better then me I can’t build a wheel to save my life ..but I’m definitely going to use this and try and build my back wheel soon
Dude that was amazing, you have gained such dexterity back over the years you're doing so damn good! Really enjoy seeing more content on you scott, you still have really well developed skills and knowledge it's incredible to see you in action. Promise us you will show more of your personal goals and pursuits! I would love to see a video on you SHREDDING YOUR PIANO!! thank you for all you do and inspire scott, you are tier legend.
It’s a great video! The wheel came out great! I’m still yet to attempt to build my first wheel one day. I can now look back at this video to help me on my journey. Thanks Scott
* Plenty of cool tips in the comments already so I'll just add this tidbit: A "nipple primer" tool makes building SOOOOO much easier. Just a simple tool that holds the nipple to keep you from dropping it into the rim and makes it easier to get it started. Take a long spare random spoke and thread a nipple onto the end well past the threads, so there are a good 3mm of threads showing. Bend the other end 90 degrees so you have something to leverage with. When it comes time to put a nipple in, you thread one onto the exposed threads and it'll hold the nipple in place so you can pilot it into place through the rim hole. Sure, you can spend money on a nipple tool but the rando spoke method is more or less free 🙂
Awesome Scotty you made that wheel straight as a dime 👍 Gone are the days of the 48 spoke 4 cross bmx wheels maybe give that a go for the next level experience
I have a same flange design hub, and laced them with 186 both side, im surprise no one know the two by two cross lacing technic
Omg this looks like a nightmare to do. Looks very frustrating and if u mess one up putting it in the wrong hole and don’t catch it right away then the rest of them are gonna b wrong
Hey guys. I have been riding since the mid 80's and have built all of my wheels even on my mtb. I have never had to bend a spoke during the build. There is a way to do it. Put all the spokes in first, lay it down flat on a table. Just make sure all the spokes are generally in the right direction as you go.
I know you guys sells bikes but do you do inspections when you get new bikes to make sure that they are ready to ride.
Never actually saw how one went together all the way before up til now it was a bit mythical on how one would lace a wheel up you are not just going to grab one and get there for sure
